This intricately crafted enamelled sanstone piece was created between 1889 and 1894 by Jean Carries, a talented artist from Lyon, born in 1855 and passed away in Paris in 1894. The sculpture is called "The Infant." According to Arsene Alexandre's biography of Carries, the work depicts a child who appears to be around six years old but still embodies the vulnerability of a baby. The child is standing confidently yet fearlessly, exuding an air of nobility and royalty without pretension. One can't help but wonder what she sees, perhaps deep sorrow or even Madame la Morte knocking on her door. Clutching tightly to her chest is a worn-out doll that looks flat and pitiful. This remarkable object is part of "Scan The World," a non-profit initiative launched by MyMiniFactory to create a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access at no cost. Scan The World is an open-source community effort where anyone can contribute interesting items from their surroundings; interested individuals can email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how they can participate in this worthwhile project.
