The Caterpillar, a character from Lewis Carroll's Alice's Adventures in Wonderland. The Caterpillar is a hookah-smoking caterpillar who demands respect with his distinctive voice. Initially, Alice doesn't like the Caterpillar because he doesn't immediately speak to her and when he does, it's often in short, rather rude sentences that leave her bewildered. His memorable phrase is a breathy "Whooo ... are ... you?" which still sends shivers down people's spines. No supports are required for this model. If you have the proper filament colors, no painting is necessary at all. The assembled model stands at 290mm tall and exudes an aura of mystery. Enjoy building this model, and be prepared to answer when someone asks "who are you?" with a confident smile. Don't let the abundance of notes scare you away from building this model. I've included them to cover all bases due to the different skill sets of makers. Building the Model Colors (there's only one printed piece) Tan: (MadMaker PLA - woodchip) mushroom_bottom Dark Blue: (Bumat ABS - blue) body_bottom_out, body_top_out, nose Light Blue: (3D Solutech ABS - aqua blue) body_bottom_in, body_top_in Skin: (ESUN ABS- medium skin) hands_left (contains 3 pieces), hands_right (contains 2 pieces), legs_left (contains 3 pieces), legs_right (contains 3 pieces) Gold: (CC3D PLA - silk gold) shoes (contains 6 pieces), hookah, hookah_spout, hookah_mouth Red: (Bumat ABS- red) mushroom_top Brown: (ESUN ABS- brown) base Green: (Amazon Basic PLA - green) leaf1, leaf2 Black: eye_brows (contains 2 pieces), eye_lashes (contains 2 pieces), mouth Transparent: (Bumat ABS - transparent) ring1_top, ring1_bottom, ring2_top, ring2_bottom, ring3_top, ring3_bottom, rings_pins (contains 6 pieces) Any color (hidden pieces): mushroom_pins (contains 3 pieces) Light Orange: Approximately 450mm of loose raw 1.75mm filament for the hookah hose Printing and Assembly Tips Printing tips: 1. No supports are required. 2. Use your judgment for brims/rafts on the hands, legs, and hookah_mouth pieces due to their small bases. 3. The parts should fit nicely when printed cleanly or with a slight first layer squish. A reminder: first layer cleanup applies to both inside edges of parts and holes for pins that are on the print surface. 4. The body_top_out contains a built-in support that rests cleanly on the part. Assembly tips: 1. I used both E6000 craft glue and thick superglue to put this model together. 2. The eye_lashes are quite small and can be glued to the dent provided, as long as they're positioned properly; they don't need to be fully inserted. 3. Be sure to note the correct position of the legs to the shoes as noted in the diagram before gluing them together. 4. Leaf1 and leaf2 should be glued together once the mushroom and base are completed. 5. Take the time to join the two halves of each smoke ring properly, especially since they're made from transparent filament. 6. For a more 'natural' look, you can use a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the filament as you curve it around the model for the hookah hose. 7. Refer to the assembly diagram and uploaded pictures for putting the model together. The model is meant to be glued.
