The Bucketizer

The Bucketizer

This was created out of necessity because I had a massive hornet nest situated beneath my eaves on the second floor. I didn't want to simply knock it down, which could potentially scatter angry hornets everywhere around me, so I came up with this solution. It's designed to allow you to zip-tie a small bucket to it in order to catch whatever gets scraped off, and there's an arm on top where you can zip-tie something (like a paint stirrer or screwdriver) to do the actual scraping. The device has threading for a standard broom handle, which means it also works with long paint poles like the 25-footer I used to get the hornet nest off my house. You could likely use this to pick fruit from high up and catch it in the bucket as well. You'd probably want to use a small knife or something strapped to the top to cut stems. In the end, it worked perfectly for me, allowing me to catch the nest and drop it into a trash can from a safe distance. Mission accomplished. Be careful - don't let a hornet nest fall on your head; that would be bad news for everyone.
