By approximately 900, the Tang dynasty was on the verge of complete collapse. In 916, a nomadic people took control of northern China and established the Qidan state, historically known as the Liao dynasty. The sensual styles prevalent during the height of the Tang dynasty served as a model for sculptures created during the Liao dynasty. This image of Mahasthamaprapta is an example. Mahasthamaprapta translates to "arrival of great strength" and represents the power of wisdom. This object is part of the "Scan The World" initiative, introduced by MyMiniFactory as a non-profit effort. Through this project, we are creating a digital archive of fully 3D printable sculptures, artworks, and landmarks from around the globe for public access at no cost. "Scan The World" is an open-source community effort. If you have interesting items nearby that you'd like to contribute, email stw@myminifactory.com to learn how you can participate. Scanned using photogrammetry and processed with Agisoft PhotoScan.
