The Big Idea - Irvine
sketchfab
The Big Idea was a science center that stood proudly in Irvine, North Ayrshire, Scotland. Strategically situated on the Ardeer Peninsula's former Nobel Explosives manufacturing site, a revolutionary new science and learning hub was conceptualized by the Millennium Commission in 2000 to commemorate the annals of invention and ingenious minds. An estimated £14 million was invested for the construction of this cutting-edge exhibition. However, after only three years of operation, The Big Idea science center permanently shut its doors in 2003 due to a significant drop in visitor numbers. It has been seventeen long years since closure, yet no plans have been made for the redevelopment of the former museum, leaving it to stand abandoned on the peninsula, a testament to time's relentless march forward.
