The Best Stationary Organizer

The stationary desk organizer aids students from the stress of having their class supplies in random parts of their room. It allows them to have easy access to everything they need from writing utensils and essentials such as sticky notes, paperclips, USBS, erasers, and anything that can fit in the cabinet or pencil/marker holder. It organizes students’ desks so they don’t have to search through the forest of the unknown and taking hours to find their mini stationery supplies to create the best annotations or best notes ever during remote learning. Mechanical design as fun as it sounds, it is a complicated process. Deciding on what to create or improve upon is the most time and stress consuming part of the whole experience and design process. Students may not be able to afford certain supplies or essentials for their desks. Most desk organizers are overpriced or lack decent quality. When thinking about the stationary organizer I wanted to make sure that my design was reasonable, never seen before, and my own. I had generated other ideas and I sketched multiple sketches that were similar from each other but I felt that the stationary organizer was never seen before, well at least I never have seen it before. Students will be more at ease that their mini essentials are not getting lost in their pencil boxes or even getting lost in the carpet, under the bed, and at bottom of their backpacks. My struggles with the designing and CAD experience was that when I was using the program I encountered issues with the planes that I drew my project in. I had to create separate pieces such as the body of the organizer and then the cabinets. The organizer was made in the top plane while the cabinets were made in the front plane. When assembling the part together each component was downloaded in different positions. It’s not easy fixing their positions especially with a new program I was using: OnShape, a cloud-based browser program since I don’t have access to Inventor or AutoCad as a remote learning student. Redesigning is the most satisfying process that I personally enjoy. The beauty of knowing that anything can be made better makes my little but yet big brain smile. The desk organizer, looking at the final product, it can hold a more modern design. My current design is rudimentary but is able to represent the main idea and purpose of the product. Therefore, If I were to add another component to my design it would be a wire organizer that keeps the wires in place. Since the organizer is placed on the desk, wires from computer chargers or phone chargers are also laying on top of the desk. The wire organizer will become a perfect addition to my design to further help students to be organized during remote learning. I, also, think that the design could be much better by having it on a bigger scale. The stationary organizer can become a multi-purpose desk organizer, it will be able to hold folders, binders, and papers. 3D printing can bring people’s designs to life. It allows the designer to see flaws that they couldn’t catch in the digital drawing and test out their product for any errors. My design can be strengthened by having a physical prototype where I can test it out as a student and see how I can make the design more useful and efficient environmentally, economically, and for the potential user. I can evaluate my design and check if all my measurements are to scale and reasonable. It can be too small or some measurements can be off. For example, the cabinets included basic math for tolerance fit. I had to create separate pieces so the component of the cabinet had to fit the opening of the body of the organizer. It would be amazing to 3D print my design to be able to ensure that all components fit together. It can keep track of my progress of physical prototypes and remind me that I am slowly getting there and not give up. Overall the whole process was a delight, even though I had some downs, it didn’t stop me from continuing with the challenge, It is a challenge after all. I hope the Stationary Organizer can be a potential lifesaver for students who are in remote learning. It’s a tough time for everyone right now and the least I can do is to make a handful of people comfortable during these times of need.
