The majestic bronze sculpture stands 3 meters high and weighs a staggering 600 kilograms. Dedicated on August 11th, 1999, this magnificent work of art is situated in the picturesque town of Biarritz, specifically on the plot known as Etienne Ardoin, along Avenue Foch. The mastermind behind this masterpiece is Francisco Leiro, a Spanish artist born in Cambados in 1957. Pierre Levrai, a generous patron from New York and Biarritz, made this incredible piece possible. According to local legend, a brave woman from the Basque region, possibly the daughter of a fisherman or peasant, saved a ship's crew with the help of the winds, sea, and sky. Her love for the captain inspired the creation of this beautiful sculpture, which now proudly stands in Biarritz, the city that hosted her. The inscription on the statue reads: "Itsasoa lano dago" (the sea is wide) and "Nik zu Zaitiu maiteago arraintxoek ura bath" (I will always love you from the waves).
