The Joy of Table Skittles or Bar Skittles - A Classic Pub Game Table Skittles, known to many as Devil Amongst the Tailors, is a thrilling pub game enjoyed by folks across Britain. This beloved pastime doesn't have an official governing body, which means that rules and equipment can vary greatly depending on where you play. In cases of doubt, always follow the locally agreed-upon rules. Devil amongst the tailors Table Setup Imagine nine tiny skittles positioned on a square raised base measuring two feet by two feet six inches in length. The side walls should be approximately three inches high. At the left-hand side of the base (viewed from where you stand) stands a tall pole, connected to a chain with a wooden ball hanging loose at the same height as the skittles. This setup requires great skill and practice to master. Play Description To knock over all nine skittles, players must first target the one furthest away. To do so effectively, the ball is swung in a circular motion behind the pole, ultimately hitting the skittles when it returns to its player. Since each throw can score a maximum of 27 points, a single match usually requires a minimum of three attempts. Basic Gameplay Rules As with traditional Skittles, this game is all about knockouts and scorekeeping. A coin toss determines who starts the match. Each player takes turns, attempting to knock down the nine skittles by throwing the wooden ball in such a way that it knocks over as many skittles upon its return. A unique scoreboard may be incorporated into the front of the game board, offering a touch of excitement and adding variety to the gameplay experience. Objectives and Game Variations The primary goal is for players to reach a cumulative score of one hundred and one, but the rules allow for a competitive alternative scoring system known as 'on' and 'off'. Here's how it works: Agree upon a certain number of legs and use a life-scoring system where players have 5 lives each. When two or more throws are scored by one player against another resulting in zero (busted), that game gets replayed for all remaining points except in the final turn.
