Athena, also known as Athene or Pallas, is a Greek goddess associated with wisdom, craftsmanship, and warfare. She was considered the patron deity of various cities across Greece, particularly Athens, from which she possibly derived her name. Portrayed in art wearing a helmet and carrying a spear, her symbols include owls, olive trees, snakes, and the Gorgoneion. Born from Zeus' head, she outshined Poseidon in a competition for Athenian patronage by creating the first olive tree. As the patron of crafts, Athena was called Ergane, while she led soldiers into battle as Athena Promachos. Celebrated with the Panathenaia festival during midsummer, Athena also aided heroes like Perseus, Heracles, Bellerophon, and Jason.
