Hi everyone, this 3d model is the Aedeificium present in the Name of the Rose (historical novel by Umberto Eco), and it’s the main setting where the cardinal events of the book take place. I checked and for now this 3d model is a unique piece on the internet (the aren't other version). You can print it both if you are a fan of the book or of the film, but also for gaming or educational purposes. The “Aedificum” is an ancient square-plan building with four heptagonal towers at the corners and a central octagonal well. The ground floor consists of the kitchen with the dining room; on the first floor there is the scriptorium where the scribe monks work; finally, on the top floor we find the maze that makes up the library. In drawing these three plans, which can be printed separately and then assembled, I tried to faithfully reproduce the design imagined by Eco, carefully tracing (in dimensions and proportions) the map that the same author drew. For other details, for example the roof, I was inspired by the characteristics of Castel del Monte (Italy) and, sometimes, also by the building in the film. The scale is 1: 100 (I strongly advise against printing on a smaller scale) and I designed the doors, the windows, the spiral staircases and the height of the floors so that they have realistic dimensions for a medieval building. I have included two versions of the labyrinth: in one the doors are of normal size and it is not easy to understand the path of the labyrinth from above; in the second the doors reach the ceiling so it is easier to decipher the labyrinth by looking from above (I recommend the latter version to those who want the small model). Finally, I added a small easter egg that is used to access the "finis Africae". I hope you enjoy and remember: Penitenziagite!!!
