Cristoforo Mantegazza was an Italian sculptor who actively worked from 1464 until his death in 1482. Born in Pavia, Italy, he was known for collaborating with his brother Antonio on a relief of the Expulsion from the Garden of Eden at the Certosa of Pavia, which remains one of the greatest works of the Renaissance era in northern Italy. As part of this collaboration, Mantegazza took charge of supervising the construction project for a certain period. This sculpture dates back to the 15th century and originates from the Carthusian Monastery in Pavia, with ownership having been transferred to the National Museum over five decades ago. A masterpiece known as Adoration of the Magi was carved out by Mantegazza, reflecting a scene that holds significance within Christianity due to its tie to the biblical account found in Christian scriptures. The said piece features scenes related to the birth of Christ and can be viewed at the National Decorative Arts Museum.
