Human: Sam-il-jeol is now known as "The Independence Movement Day."\nThis national holiday honors Korea's fight for freedom and the peaceful protests that erupted on March 1, 1919.\nJapan illegally occupied our country from 1910 to August 15, 1945, sparking a fierce resistance.\nThe Sam-il-jeol movement began with a nationwide reading of the Declaration of Independence.\nThe "Man-se" protest involved waving the Korean flag and chanting "Independence for Korea," all done in peaceful opposition to Japan's rule.\nJapanese authorities responded brutally, using guns and swords to suppress Korean citizens.\nMany brave activists were hurt in the process, with some imprisoned, tortured, or killed.\nGwan Soon Yoo is a legendary figure in Korea's struggle for independence.\nAt just 16 years old, she was executed by Japanese forces during the movement and died from their torture.\nThe Japanese committed further atrocities after her death, even going so far as to destroy her body.\nDespite these heinous acts, Gwan Soon Yoo's spirit remained unbroken in its pursuit of independence.\nSam-il-jeol is a day to honor the patriots who gave their lives fighting for Korea's freedom.
