Thames Tide Recorder
sketchfab
A copper octagonal structure stands proudly at the west end of Westminster Bridge, London, its unique design near the boat pier capturing the attention of passersby. Used for recording the river depth at this exact location, it offers an interesting glimpse into the world of measurement and data collection. By peering through the small windows, you can catch a glimpse of the digital displays showing the recorded readings in real-time. The box itself is a canvas of sorts, adorned with stickers and other forms of graffiti that add to its charm. A Museum of London video provides further insight into this fascinating structure: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YJyaIK_ILZI. In July 2020, 186 photos were taken using a Sony a6000 camera and later processed in Reality Capture software.
