This two-piece device enables a firm grip on any type of fabric without puncturing them. The first part, called the lock (shown in blue), snugly fits into the base, which is called the star due to its resemblance to a ninja throwing star (shown in red). This versatile device has numerous practical applications anywhere you live. The project webpage is accessible here. Stretcher: Combine six fasteners, a blanket, and two poles. Hammock: Use two fasteners and a blanket. Emergency Tent: Attach four fasteners and a plastic sheet or tarp. Greenhouse or row guard: Employ multiple fasteners and clear plastic to create a greenhouse. Food transport: Utilize fabric and four fasteners to make a flexible box for carrying items like vegetables. Improved Tarps: You can use a fastener to secure a grommet that has popped out of a normal tarp. You can also join multiple tarps together into a larger tarp using numerous fasteners. You can create a custom waterproof cover. You can employ the fasteners to hold the tarp in a customized way for another function, such as rainwater collection or roof leak repair or boat protection. Instructions: To Make: STL files for printing both the star and the lock are available here and can be printed from various materials using an open-source rapid prototyper like the RepRap. To Use: Wrap the lock in fabric with its flat side touching the fabric. Push the lock and fabric through the hole in the star. Turn the lock piece 90 degrees and pull it into place, as shown assembled in Figure 1. To remove the fastener, follow steps 1-3 in reverse. Both the lock and the star have multiple holes that can be used with tie lines or nails depending on your application. Suggestions for improvement are always welcome.
