This script converts text into a 3D format using the Cairo and Pango libraries for rendering with any installed fonts (supposedly cross-platform, though tested only on Linux). Its unique feature is anti-aliasing of the text. The latest code is available at https://github.com/brad/text2surface. However, it suffers from the same size limitation as its predecessor, causing OpenSCAD to crash if the text is too large (recommended font size for a sign spanning the build platform is 70). Updates include an option for non-anti-aliased extruded text (from September 30, 2011). The script accepts various options and arguments, including text content, font family, font style, font size, maximum dimensions, z-height, and output file names in .scad or .stl formats. Examples of usage are also provided.
