Texas A&M Horseshoe Light Box
prusaprinters
A family member is an alumini of Texas A&M university who specialized in equine sciences. I was also very excited that I found a proper maroon PLA from FilaCube that prints exceptionally nicely, so I knew what I had to do. Now I don't have to go Christmas shopping for them š¤£This model uses some 4000k COB LEDs, a simple SPST switch, and a USB-C insert. Soldering is necessary in this configuration. The insert is a little snug getting in, gently squeezing the prongs in with pliers will help but you want it snug so I'm OK with this. There's also a hidden hole for an M1.7 screw on the center-top of the model so you don't need adhesives to keep it closed and a keyhole for hanging on a nail or thumbtack.Although it really wasn't necessary, I had a scrap of COB laying around so I put it in the middle of the base just to help brighten up the middle of the light. I also played with using spiral for the surface on the silver but that came out ugly and slow so I changed the profile back to the regular monotonic line.Ā PRINTINGThe base used FilaCube Maroon, eSun Metallic PLA Silver, and Hatchbox Glow-in-the-Dark Green. You don't have to make the reflective layer silver (anything shiny will do), or just leave it as maroon if you wish. For the GitD material you could use any highly translucent material, but GitD makes it fun for a bit when you turn it off. There's a height range modifier that prints the top of the model at 0.2mm height so the screw hole has an extra layer or two to toughen it up.The face used just the FilaCube and white eSun PLA+. Feel free to substitute with your favorite brands. The print profiles are set up to print large layers on the base with an optimized infill orientation for a smooth reflective layer, and finer layers with smaller lines for the face to catch details. You should watch out for whispies as they are possible depending on your filament. Print order on the face will start with white, then do two layers of maroon. It's at this moment you may wish to pause the print to inspect for whispies. No other points of intervention are required as the remainder will simply fill in the rest of the white then go back to maroon without any additional white being deposited.
