Tevo Tornado Z Axis Upgrade for MGN12 Linear Rails
thingiverse
This conversion transforms the Tevo Z axis into MGN12 linear rails, achieved in conjunction with a CR10 Dual Z axis upgrade kit. The goal was to minimize modifications while preserving as much of the original stock metal components as possible, thus maintaining the printer's integrity. The project began with an orange version, which I later repainted flat black using two 450mm MGN12 rails. Files are included for any minor adjustments: Drill hole guides - These guides ensure precise alignment with the CR10 and stock metal pieces to drill perfectly spaced holes for the MGN12Hs. I recommend using a slightly larger bit than needed for fine-tuning. Spacers - Six spacers are required, replacing the wheels and accommodating the additional 13mm added by the MGN12s. Six 2-inch/50mm 5M screws are also necessary. Motor mounts - These mounts provide the correct spacing to secure the motors, with oversized holes allowing for a 2mm shift in any direction to ensure the lead screw remains perfectly vertical. Top lead Screw supports - Both sides have differing positioning of the lead screw; measurements may vary depending on your printer. These supports prevent the lead screw from wobbling. I used the stock bearing and the one included with the CR10 kit. Fusion 360 files are provided for customization, allowing you to edit the first sketch in the timeline with your measurements. The linked sketch lines will adjust accordingly. Only the X and Y distances from the frame require modification.
