Tevo Tornado Spool Holder

Tevo Tornado Spool Holder

I was searching for a spool holder design for my Tevo Tornado that would elevate the spool off my work surface while also allowing me to mount it from the front, but couldn't find one online. I came up with this design instead. This prints in 3 pieces to achieve optimal print layers for each critical part and due to its overall size. The arm mounts to the top rail of the Tevo by sliding on from the end without the Z screw. It can only be slid on, not snapped on from the top. The straight arm attached to the curved arm using a mortise & tenon joint. This is a snug fit and depending on how your print turns out you may need to trim back any overhanging plastic from the hole and mating surfaces. You'll also need to remove the supports from inside the mortise and the bottom of the tendon. I epoxied the joint, but it seems strong enough to be left as a press fit - up to you how you want to leave it. The spool shaft is designed to be left as a press fit. This needs to go on after the arm is slid onto the upper rail and the hole past the Z screw, as the shaft extends farther than the screw. This is also a tight fit, so I suggest test fitting the parts before attaching it to the printer to ensure it moves freely and removing any flanges on the end of the shaft due to printing directly on the build surface. The disk at the back of the shaft is designed to fit flush into the recess in the arm, locking it in place. If there's any plastic built up around the disk, it could make this difficult. The spool shaft is also under 1" in diameter to accommodate smaller hubs like those from AMZ3D. When you put a spool on the holder, it will flex slightly - about 1/2 inch - but that's about it. Update: After using my original setup for a year, I've changed it and can no longer use this holder. However, I decided to test its strength by seeing how much weight it can hold.
