Tevo Tornado Direct Driver Extruder Mounting Plate
thingiverse
This is a mounting plate used to convert my Tevo Tornado retrofitted with an aftermarket aluminum extruder to direct drive feed. The aftermarket extruder I have installed is compatible with or created for the CR-10. A thin and lightweight motor can be ordered, but I just used the Tevo OEM unit. To change to this extruder, it is necessary to roll two of the four extruder wires, as well as recalibrate the extruder gain from the Tevo control to account for different gearing. The X-axis limit switch will need to be shimmed forward the same thickness as the plate. Instead of a printed plate that s_gutz designed, I used a small stack of small washers. Longer M3 screws are needed for the limit switch, and old limit switch screws were used to mount the hotend. The hotend is a Chinese knockoff of a Swiss style unit, which employs the same mounting holes/system as the OEM hotend. A longer cable set was installed for the hotend and feeder motor. Overall, I like the modification and have been getting good TPU prints. One thing that I don't like about it is that the screws to hold the hotend are now also holding the entire extruder feed. It seems rigid enough but when you need to do maintenance to remove the hotend you need to off the entire feeder assembly as well. Special thanks to David at the Cedarburg Library for printing this out when my Tevo was in pieces!
