The guards shield the end stop sensors from harm and keep the wiring harness umbilical or filament safe from getting pinched between the top plate and one of the carriages. These mounts secure firmly with 4 v-groove fasteners into the column's side grooves. Turning the fastener 90 degrees locks it in place or releases it. I experienced two mishaps that these guards could have prevented: 1. The PTFE tube over the filament extruder was too long and got caught between the top plate and one of the carriages as the printer was homing at warp speed. This blocked the carriage from triggering the end stop sensor, causing the belts to grind loudly as the control board tried to bring the carriage back home. Only shutting down the printer stopped the chaos. This mishap caused the belt to come loose from the carriage, requiring me to remove the top plate to reattach it. 2. I made a mistake by homing the effector with the filament removed and the end of the filament accidentally got into one of the end stop sensors, triggering it. This fooled the controller into thinking this axis was already home and tried to bring the other two into position. This effort caused the effector to move to its maximum offset and locked up the two carriages. The printer kept trying while making a terrible belt grinding sound, terminated by shutting down.
