Tetra-Hedra Building Blocks!

Tetra-Hedra Building Blocks!

thingiverse

Years ago in college, I took an art class that involved creating a sculpture using numerous identical 3D shapes made of paper or cardboard. Sadly, my sculpture was lost over time. Recently, I discovered the Customizer App on Thingiverse, which allowed me to create geometric shapes for 3D printing purposes. Using this app, I designed the TetraHedra and modified it by splitting the sides of each leg, creating a design where two Tetras could fit together. To make the sculpture even bigger, I decided to print large versions of these Tetras. My friend suggested using a hot glue gun to assemble the pieces temporarily, and applying isopropyl alcohol to dissolve the glue for easy disassembly. If you want smaller Tetras, simply reduce their size by a certain percentage. I also created smaller "foot" pieces to elevate the base of the sculpture. The original customizer may not be the one used in this project, but it should work nonetheless. In 2017, I printed around 40-50 Tetras and built a sculpture at my day job, while an assistant created another sculpture using these blocks at the NYC World Maker Faire 2017.
