Tethys moon of Saturn
sketchfab
Tethys or Saturn III is a mid-sized satellite orbiting around Saturn, stretching about 1,060 kilometers across its entire circumference. With an extremely low density rating, Tethys holds the distinction of having the lowest mass among all major satellites within our Solar System, indicating that it consists primarily of water ice mixed with just a tiny fraction of solid rock. This composition is further confirmed by spectroscopic analysis of its surface, which reveals water ice as the dominant material present. A small amount of an unidentified dark substance also appears to be scattered across its surface. The surface of Tethys shines brightly, making it the second-brightest satellite orbiting Saturn after Enceladus, and is characterized by a neutral color tone. It's highly cratered and carved by numerous large faults/graben. The largest impact crater, Odysseus, measures approximately 400 kilometers in diameter, while the longest graben, Ithaca Chasma, stretches over 2,000 kilometers in length and about 100 kilometers wide. These two massive surface features may be connected in some way. A small portion of its surface is covered by smooth plains that could potentially be cryovolcanic in origin.
