Test Tube for Capturing Queen Ants
thingiverse
This is a specialized test tube I created specifically for capturing Queen ants. The test tube measures 16mm in diameter, allowing you to capture a wide range of queens from the smallest monomorium to the largest myrmecia. Before attempting to catch Queens, make sure to conduct thorough research on their specific care requirements. It is crucial to determine whether your queen is claustral or semi-claustral to ensure proper care. There are two versions of this test tube available: one with two slits and another with four slits, both measuring 16mm in diameter. After printing the test tube, you should have a cylindrical shape with either four or two slits on its sides. To prepare it for ant capture, follow these steps: 1. Fill the test tube with water just below the slit area. 2. Insert a cotton ball into the tube, allowing it to soak up the water without reaching the bottom. This will provide hydration and humidity for your Queen, promoting egg-laying. 3. Use transparent tape to wrap around the test tube, ensuring no gaps in the slits. This creates an observation window. 4. Optionally, use a cotton bud to rub the exposed tape on the inside of the test tube, reducing its stickiness. 5. You can use a second cotton ball as a seal if ants are caught. Cotton balls allow airflow, making them ideal for this purpose. 6. Catch your desired ants in the sun and observe them through the transparent tape. Thanks for reading! This test tube is designed to be helpful in capturing Queen ants.
