I've completed the first two layers of this project https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:679790 and added the three circles. The empty spaces are roughly 0.4 mm thick. If you're too low, all the hearts will stick together, but if you're too high, the filament won't attach to the bed properly. It's recommended to set the height and width of the first layer to 100% for accurate results.
