Tessellation of an Equilateral Pentagon

Tessellating Equilateral Pentagon This simple tessellating pattern features an equilateral pentagon, four of which form a hexagon. While it's not a regular pentagon, it has several interesting properties. Within each pentagon, there are two right angles, and the measure of the other three angles can be calculated. I first determined the measure of one of the two congruent angles, which is 45° plus arccos(sqrt(2)/4). Then, I mirrored the sketches around to create a balanced design. This makes for a great starting project for students to practice tessellations and geometry skills. Included are two shelled pentagons, a pentagonal caddy, and a hexagonal caddy. The edge length of each pentagon is 25 mm, with a thickness of 3.6 mm. The caddy stands 60 mm tall, providing ample space for various items.
