A team of Irish students constructed a Telsa turbine reaching 28,000rpm; it can, however, attain higher speeds if not for the restricted maximum of 23,000rpm for ball bearings. Unique to its design, discs were repurposed from computer hard drives. Post assembly, these discs must be machined concentrically. Disc spacing was optimized at 0.4mm through Solidworks Flow Simulation and computational fluid dynamics (C.F.D.) analysis.
