Wardenclyffe Tower, also called the Tesla Tower, was a pioneering wireless transmission structure designed by Nikola Tesla in Shoreham, New York. The purpose of this tower, built between 1901 and 1917, was to facilitate commercial trans-Atlantic wireless telephony, broadcasting, and demonstrations of wireless power transmission. However, it never became fully operational, and it was eventually demolished in 1917. The land for the tower was purchased by James S. Warden, a western lawyer and banker, who believed that Tesla's "world system" would lead to the development of a "Radio City" in the area. Consequently, Warden offered Tesla 200 acres of land near a railway line for constructing his wireless telecommunications tower and laboratory facility at Wardenclyffe-On-Sound resort community.
