Tesla S radar detector mount

A radar detector mount for a Valentine radar detector in a Tesla Model S. The bracket is designed to tuck the detector unobtrusively high on the windshield to the right of the rear view mirror. I did have to mount it lower from the roof in order to access the volume buttons on top of the V2 detector. The front of the bracket slips over the front edge of the headliner and the arm goes over the sun-visor magnetic post. The sun-visor is still operational and the bracket installs in minutes. I wrapped the sun-visor post with peel-and-stick industrial Velcro (just the fuzzy half) to protect it from scratches, but this is probably unnecessary. This bracket may work with other radar detector brands and other Tesla models but has not been tested. Use a heat resistant filament for 3D printing to prevent warping from heat in the sunlight. Do not print with PLA.

After printing use the new bracket as a template to drill holes into one the Valentine detector mounting brackets. I used the one designed for visor mounting without the metal clip. Use M3x5 screws and nuts to attach the printed bracket to the Valentine piece and then slide in the detector. Do not over-tighten the screws or the Valentine bracket will crack. You may want to add washers or reinforcement to the Valentine bracket where the screws are located.
