Tesla Model S/X Cubby Drawer
thingiverse
This is my Tesla Model S/X cubby drawer. I have two versions available: one features a standoff for using a metal pull handle and another version includes a finger hole, eliminating the need for additional accessories. I utilize ABS for printing, but PETG works exceptionally well too, producing a shinier finish. You can apply a wrap to the front of the drawer to give it a carbon fiber look or any other design you prefer. I have Cricut files for the front face available upon request if someone is interested. Printing this out of TPU/Ninjaflex would likely result in an intriguing drawer design. Both versions of the cubby drawer include an integrated J1772 holder, and I also have a version without it; however, I don't see a point in creating a drawer without the holder as you can simply omit using it if you choose to do so. This gives you some extra space for change or keys, or any other item you might want to store. This design should print smoothly without requiring any supports. My Solidworks license has expired and I've found their customer service to be quite frustrating, so I haven't bothered renewing it. As a result, this design is stuck in Solidworks and I'm unable to make any further modifications at present. I've recently switched over to Inventor but importing the design leaves much to be desired. The cubby's unique shape leads to some unusual angles that can be difficult to achieve on a single piece if you want the drawer to fit properly. Upon examining commercial drawers, it becomes apparent that they don't fit perfectly in the cubby hole, and now I understand why – it's nearly impossible to create a drawer that fits the cubby precisely. To make matters worse, different model years have slightly varying cubby dimensions, so the drawer may fit some models but not others. The solution is to scale this design by 1 or 2 percent, which should ensure a proper fit for your cubby; however, it might result in a slightly loose fit in one dimension when scaled. I initially intended this to be a retainer-free drawer capable of withstanding ludicrous launches, and it does – provided your cubby is from the correct vintage. Be sure to remove any rubber material that lines your cubby as the drawer will not fit properly with it in place.
