Tesla Model S Based Rim - Made to ETRTO Standards

thingiverse

This is a 1/3 scale replica of a rim I designed for a recent Mechanical Engineering project. The rim adheres to the ETRTO standards for a 2018 Tesla Model S, making it theoretically compatible if printed at full size. It features an 8Jx19 ET40 rim profile, complete with two flat hump safety protrusions, a 5x120 bolt pattern and a 64.1 centre bore. As this is an ongoing project, this is the initial version of the rim and remains a work in progress. Note: This print requires significant time (24 hours for myself) and effort, necessitating the use of supports. It also consumes considerable filament (approximately 300g), with a substantial amount lost on supports. While it's possible to print at a smaller scale, I'm concerned about the rim wall thickness being too thin as it's only around 1.5-2 mm thick even at 1/3 scale. However, at this scale, the rim exhibits impressive strength and solidity. A 0.3mm layer height was employed for most of the print, but a 0.16mm layer height was used for the top surface layers as they began printing, thanks to Slic3r Prusa Edition's variable layer height feature. I hope you find this replica enjoyable, and I'll be posting an updated version soon!
