This is a custom panel designed specifically for a Uniden R3 radar detector, intended to fit seamlessly into the console of a Tesla Model 3. The panel features provisions for a 12v cigarette lighter adapter and two USB power adapters, as well as a dedicated spot for an on/off switch to discreetly turn off the radar unit's power. One of the USB ports is positioned facing inward, allowing users to power a wireless phone charging pad while keeping the stock USB ports free for other essential devices like a dashcam or music player's USB key. To complete this project, the panel should be flocked with material to give it a sleek and high-quality finish. The flocking process has been carefully considered in relation to the panel's dimensions to ensure a perfect fit. However, due to the Uniden remote's tight spot, some minor filing might be necessary to secure it properly, as the remote is designed to be pressure-fit. To secure the back panel, I drilled holes and used zip ties - a clever solution since this area won't be visible. The panel also comes equipped with two brackets to keep it in place, although they may not be necessary if the panel fits snugly with enough pressure. If brackets are chosen, they can be secured using either drilling holes or strong double-sided tape. A valuable tip: when working on wiring, solder and heat shrink all connections to prevent any potential issues. Be mindful of excess wire length, as space is limited within this custom panel. Most components were sourced from Amazon, making it relatively easy to find the necessary parts.
