Tesla Desktop Lamp & Charging Station
thingiverse
I recently acquired a mini, USB powered tesla coil off Ebay for about $20.00 and was really excited to see that it actually worked pretty well when I received it. I wanted to make something cool to show off to my friends at work so decided to turn it into a 5V USB powered CFL lamp with a USB charging outlet for my phone. I created the base box for this in Fusion 360 and printed it out on my Duplicator I3. A little soldering and hot glue did the trick, and I was up and running. I also had a Gas Discharge Nixie Tube lying around and decided to top the coil with that for an extra wow factor. It works great and is a really neat way to show off wireless power using a harmless voltage to power a normally 120V bulb. I prepared the base drawing for a 1.5mm thick bottom plate with screw holes, but didn't really need it, so if you want a cover plate, you can design one pretty easily.
