Teshub was a powerful storm god worshipped by Syrians in their local pantheon. When Assyrian monarchs conquered and absorbed Aramean kingdoms into their empire, they established new palaces and temples in key cities as symbols of dominance. A magnificent monument from the ancient city of Hadatu bears testament to this cultural fusion. It showcases Teshub in his adapted form as Adad, an Assyrian deity revered for his association with storms and thunderous power. The bearded god strides purposefully forward atop a mighty bull, which bellowing loudly evokes the rumbling sound of thunder. Adad wields lightning bolts and proudly wears his long sword at his waist, while a fringed cloak, tunic, and distinctive horned headdress adorned with a gleaming star-shaped disc complete his imposing attire. This stunning artifact resides in the department of Eastern Antiquities at the Musée du Louvre in Paris. It was digitized by The British Museum during the I Am Ashurbapinal exhibition held in 2019.
