Humans craft terrariums from materials such as glass, metal frames, plastic, and wood to create controlled environments suitable for amphibians, reptiles, insects, and other invertebrates as well as plants. A typical terrarium features a substrate like sand or soil on the bottom, accompanied by stones, moss, and turf for terrestrial species, while trees receive snags and vines to cling to. Water is often included, with the bowl usually buried partially underground. Temperature and humidity levels must be carefully regulated to mimic natural conditions as closely as possible.
