Terraforming Mars Board Game Overlay
thingiverse
The Terraforming Mars board game comes with player boards that feature resource and player cubes placement areas. Players often accidentally knock these boards or bump the table while playing, causing them to misplace their cubes. This overlay is designed to be placed directly on (or glued onto) the player boards to help keep track of cube positions more efficiently. The large spaces are reserved for resource cubes and the smaller ones for player cubes. An extra spot is available for each set of cubes because it's possible to exceed the initial "10" limit, and placing an additional cube in this extra space indicates that you've surpassed the shown value. The images show that the cube holders do not perfectly align with the printed board. This design choice was necessary due to the printed board's layout, where cubes are placed side by side. For an overlay to be effective, individual separation is required, which spaces out the cubes for better visibility. The spacing achieved in this overlay is as close as possible to the original locations while maintaining a sturdy grid that can withstand repeated use. If you're bothered by the alignment offset, consider replacing the original player board with a more expensive alternative that provides perfect alignment.
