Terracotta Model of a Warship
sketchfab
This ancient Cypriot terracotta warship model dates from 300 B.C. to 201 B.C. It was a common practice to find boat models near the ancient city of Amathus on Cyprus's south coast, typically submerged at sea but also discovered in tombs and sanctuaries as votive offerings. This particular model is one of the most significant known from Cyprus, featuring a flat base with sturdy uprights supporting a deck positioned above the gunwale. At its front lies a preserved ram, accompanied by a possible 'eye' painted in black on the prow. The model is currently displayed at the Cypriot Gallery within the Fitzwilliam Museum. It was recreated as part of #CEEF3D Being An Islander: A Museum in a Box project.
