Western Necropolis is a breathtaking archaeological site that dates back to the 1st century BCE and extends into the 1st century CE. Today, this ancient treasure trove is meticulously managed by the National Institution Stobi. In 2015, a groundbreaking team of experts from the Balkan Heritage Field School's Workshop on 3D archaeological recording came together for an extraordinary collaboration. This joint project brought together some of the brightest minds in the field, including the Balkan Heritage Foundation from Bulgaria, the National Institution Stobi from Macedonia, and the Department of Classics at Queen University from Canada, as well as New Bulgarian University from Bulgaria. Together, they worked tirelessly to create a stunning 3D model that showcases the site's rich history and culture in vivid detail.
