Tensile stress test (ASTMD-IV)
thingiverse
A test strip is used in tensile testing machines to measure a material's strength. Standardized dimensions allow for comparisons between materials. The machine pulls the strip at a consistent speed while measuring force until it breaks. Currently, HDPE strips are printed and compared to stamped ones; future tests will involve different materials. The goal is to analyze infill patterns' effects on part strength and develop build rules based on expected forces. While little information exists for fused deposition modeling/fused filament modeling, there's extensive knowledge in injection molding. Assistance with printing test strips from various materials is appreciated, and details are available on the profile.
