Tenor Saxophone Reed Remix
thingiverse
I've tried printing a playable reed for my tenor saxophone several times, but it wasn't until I took the "Tenor Sax Reed V2" by dragonriot and gave it a complete overhaul that things started to fall into place. The problem was always the same - no matter which reed I printed from Thingiverse, the rounding of the tip just wasn't quite flat enough when I aligned the corners of my mouthpiece with the corners of the reed. There was always this annoying little bulge sticking out in the middle that drove me crazy. So, I took matters into my own hands and cut the tip to shape, setting it to a precise 0.1mm height right at the tip. After giving it a try, I'm thrilled to report that it sounds fantastic - but hey, that's just my opinion! UPDATE: After some further experimentation, I think the reed might be a bit too thin for me with 0.1mm, so I've uploaded another model with a 0.15mm height at the tip, and it works like a charm!
