Tennor Saxophone Neck Insert- Type 1 Insert

myminifactory

Type 1 Insert is a saxophone neck insert that makes playing easier, at least it did for me. This simple design uses a PLA part as the main body and four NinjaFlex grips to fit snugly into the saxophone neck without damaging the instrument. The grips are glued onto the main body, requiring minimal glue. To use the insert, place it inside the saxophone neck on the end where it attaches to the saxophone body. The insert should glide smoothly into place and hold securely. Attach the neck and mouthpiece as usual and play. Note that some tenor necks may be slightly larger or smaller in bore, but this design fits most. The Type 1 Insert changes the sound of the saxophone just a bit, making it more mellow and allowing easier playing of lower notes. A sound test will be added soon to demonstrate the difference in sound. I tested the insert with a Yamaha tenor YTS-280 and a P. Mauriat Custom Class System 76 2nd Edition, both equipped with a metal Theo Wanne Metal Shiva mouthpiece and a Rico Java #3 reed. For the sound test, I didn't tune the saxophone when adding the neck insert to limit variables, so the mouthpiece and reed remained unchanged throughout testing. These saxophone setups were brand new, straight from the store shelf at SAX.CO.UK. A special thanks to SAX.CO.UK for allowing me to test the Type 1 Insert with their equipment. This is my first neck insert design, and I'm currently making alterations to see what sound changes I can produce. Stay tuned and please provide feedback on the comments page.
