CartridgeSave championed the 2014 3DPrintCup, an innovative competition that challenged North West creatives to craft a movable character design to be 3D printed on their cutting-edge Makerbot Replicator.\nDrawing inspiration from Shintoism's rich mythology, graphic artist Mike Snowdon designed a Tengu, a crow-like deity closely tied to the martial arts, which sparked the imagination of the entire team. Our talented 3D artist Emily Cheung then skillfully brought the design to life in the virtual third dimension with her own unique flair.\nOnce the print was complete, characters were returned to their creators for finalization, a meticulous process that involved carefully removing the support structure the printer built around each model and meticulously painting the figure, readying it for the competition.\nThe 3DPrintCup, held at Manchester's Cornerhouse, drew an impressive response from creatives across the region, pushing the Makerbot to its limits with outstanding submissions. Mike & Emily's Tengu-san design earned them the coveted trophy for "Best Team," proudly displayed in our Liverpool studio as a testament to their hard work and dedication.
