Ten Sided Dice

thingiverse

A number of users have requested d10 dice, and many options are available on Thingiverse (see things 3018, 29055, 33392, 38156, and 58408). The earliest version, thing:3018 by TheRooster, is particularly attractive. Four versions based on the standard pentagonal trapezohedron are provided, with openSCAD code for customization. These dice have flat faces and are easy to print in various sizes – small and large, plain or with flattened edges. Stl files include d10_small.stl, d10_small_minkowski.stl, d10_large.stl, and d10_large_minkowski.stl. The pentagonal trapezohedron was constructed from a pentagonal antiprism using the method in thing:30958. Numbers for the dice come from the font Architects Daughter by polymaker (thing:13677). The openSCAD program tp10_dice.scad creates these dice, and dxf images of the numbers are in numbers_dxf.zip. Flattened edge versions result from a minkowski sum of the pentagonal trapezohedron and its dual, the pentagonal antiprism. Examples of polyhedra produced by minkowski sums are included in the openSCAD program. The dice can be printed directly on the build surface, with small versions taking less than 30 minutes to print with modest infill.
