Templo del Fuego Nuevo
sketchfab
Thanks to the support of archaeologist José Álvaro Barrera Rivera from INAH and Aarón González's enthusiasm, a graduate student in archaeology who is writing his thesis on Cerro de la Estrella or Huizachtépetl in Iztapalapa, Dr. Arturo Montero completed the photogrammetry of this site on October 28, 2019. At the top of the hill stands one of the most important pyramids in Mexico City, as it was where the last New Fire ceremony of pre-Hispanic times took place for the Aztecs in 1507. The significance of the pyramid is not limited to the Late Postclassic period. The structure has a sequence of construction stages indicating continuity throughout ritual occupation from the Classic period. Two stages are associated with Colhuacan and one with the Aztecs.
