The construction of the temple started around 470 BC and likely finished by 457 BC. The architect Libon of Elis designed it in the Doric style. The temple held a famous statue of Zeus, one of the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. In AD 426, Emperor Theodosius II ordered the destruction of the temple site. Earthquakes hit in 522 and 551, causing significant damage to the ruins and burying part of Zeus' Temple. More Information: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Temple_of_Zeus,_Olympia
