The 3D model originated with Sketchup 8 before being converted into multiple other 3D formats. Native file type is .skp, and 3ds Max scenes are optimized for 3ds Max 2016 with Vray 3.00 rendering, courtesy of SAElin/Airbusa330. The 787-3 targeted high-density flights as a 290-seat {two-class} short-range variant capable of flying 2,500 to 3,050 nautical miles [4,650 to 5,650 km] at full load. Based on the same fuselage used in the 787-8, the wing design incorporated blended winglets replacing raked wingtips from the 787-8. This modification reduced the wingspan by approximately 25 feet {7.6 m}, allowing for more efficient domestic gate use in Japan. The model's range would have been limited due to a decreased MTOW of 364,000 lb [165,000 kg]. Two Japanese airlines initially ordered 45 Boeing 787-3s, but production setbacks on the base 787-8 model prompted Boeing to delay the introduction of the -3 after the 787-9's launch in April 2008 without a specified delivery date. By January 2010, all remaining 787-3 orders were converted to 787-8 configurations due to diminished customer interest stemming from the aircraft's focus on the Japanese market. As a result, Boeing canceled the 787-3 project in December 2010, citing financial viability concerns.
