This 3D model was originally built with Sketchup 8 and then exported to all other 3D formats. The native format is .skp, and the 3dsmax scene is based on 3ds Max 2016, rendered using Vray 3.00 We are grateful to Maberick Mocha for the 742 aircraft model, AirplaneNerd777 for providing the GE90 engines, and 707 for contributing the L1011 tail section design. In the late 1960s and early 1970s, Boeing investigated developing a shorter version of the 747 with three engines to compete against the smaller L-1011 TriStar and DC-10 models. The proposed 747 trijet would have had more payload capacity, range, and passenger seats than the L-1011 and DC-10. A center engine would be placed in the tail section with an S-duct intake system similar to the one on the L-1011 aircraft. However, engineering studies revealed that a total redesign of the 747 wing structure would be required. To minimize pilot training costs, maintaining the same 747 handling characteristics was crucial. Boeing ultimately decided to develop a shorter version of the four-engine 747, which resulted in the 747SP design.
