Tell Halaf is an archaeological site nestled deep within the Al Hasakah governorate in northeastern Syria, just a stone's throw from the Turkish border, directly opposite Ceylanpınar. This remarkable find marked the dawn of a Neolithic culture, which would later come to be known as the Halaf culture, distinguished by its exquisite glazed pottery adorned with intricate geometric and animal designs. The site itself dates back to the 6th millennium BCE, during which time it served as a Hittite ruling city before eventually becoming the seat of power for the Aramaean city-state of Guzana or Gozan in the 10th century BCE. By the end of the 9th century BCE, the city and its surrounding area were absorbed into the Assyrian Empire's vast dominion. As the Syrian Civil War raged on, control of the region shifted into the hands of the People's Protection Units.
