Telescoping Tube Whistle

Telescoping Tube Whistle

Inspired by "Amplifier" (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1016045), I modified one of my Tube Whistle designs (http://www.thingiverse.com/thing:1025843) to include a telescoping amplifier cone; this is the outcome. Several images show an initial version (which failed to print successfully), with only two telescoping rings attached. The first released .stl file, save_19_4_rings.stl has four telescoping rings to extend the amplifying cone. At the moment, my printer isn't functioning due to a bad thermistor on the extruder; so I'm publishing this without printing one yet. Hopefully, I'll have printed one before the #MakeItLoud challenge finishes. Update 11/14/2015: Printer is working again; I uploaded a new version, save_25.stl, that includes a flared outer ring, larger whistle slots, and an additional "anchor layer" with only one layer (.3mm thick) which should be removed after printing. The dB reading on this whistle was 117.6. Take note that the top of the first extension ring is slightly irregularly shaped to match the cone shape of the whistle body; it needs to be turned so as to line up with the profile of the whistle body when extended. All the other rings are round. https://youtu.be/yd9cgFEKPHQ Print Settings Printer: MakerFarm Prusa i3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: .25mm layers Infill: Most of the print doesn't really matter, it's just thin walls. Post-Printing Removing the "raft"/"brim" from the finished print. To anchor the print firmly to the bed, the object includes a first layer connecting the outer two rings, and the three inner rings. It's easy to simply cut through the .25mm anchoring layer with a knife.
