Telescoping Phone Grip for JoyCons
prusaprinters
Printed at 0.2mm layer height, 25% infill with supports on rafts. The Grips can hold phones with a case up to 16mm thick. At the back are tabs inside the opening for attaching rubber bands to pull the grips together against the phone. I use both tabs to attach 2 rubber bands for stronger pull. The Right Grip has an opening to attach a Mayflash Magic-NS adapter (https://mayflash.com) to connect the JoyCons to my Android phone as JoyCons aren't fully supported in certain apps without rooting the phone. Use Switch Pro mode on the adapter. I also use a right angle USB-C adapter and magnetic tip, which is not required but makes it easier to install/remove the phone without removing the Right JoyCon. Print the Left Grip, Right Grip, and one of the Back Covers (Holes or Solid). The Rubber Band Pick is to help you attach the rubber bands if you don't have angled tweezers handy. The Back Cover should snap into place after you install the rubber bands and adapter. I use the back cover with holes so I can see the adapter light up when connecting. I recommend using the support blocker to divide the supports instead keeping it as a solid block for easier removal (see example image of how I split up the supports). Don't use any supports in the Right Grip adapter cable passthrough area or on and around the rubber band tabs of both Left and Right Grips. Again, see the example images of my support layout.Included are optional test pieces in case you want to see if your printer can achieve the desired fits before printing the actual grips. The rail wall where the JoyCon slides into is 0.6mm thick, so make sure your slicer is set up to print these thin walls. Expect some sanding if your supports don't come off cleanly enough. The Grips should slide freely so that the rubber bands can pull the Grips together against the phone. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~The grips have modified Steam Deck handles used from the models provided by Valve Corporation at https://gitlab.steamos.cloud/SteamDeck/hardware under the Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial-Sharealike 4.0 International license (http://creativecommons.org/licenses/by-nc-sa/4.0/).
