Telescope Worm Drive

There are three separate designs here that could be useful on their own. Motor Bracket The Motor Bracket is my first 3D design, which I'm pretty proud of. It does require a bit of sanding to get everything to fit properly. I've got to work on not making things too tight. A motor coupler for a stepper motor and a 5/16 threaded rod is also included in this set. The rod end needs to be tapped since it doesn't have any threads, which is something my modeling skills aren't quite up to yet. This part is destined for my telescope mount. The pillow blocks hold skateboard bearings. The fit for the bearings is a bit loose, but the nuts do hold everything in place, so that's okay. Print Settings Printer: JG Aurora A3 Rafts: No Supports: No Resolution: 0.1 Infill: 20% Notes: The motor coupler was printed lying down to give it the best strength when the motor is driving, though the torque here is very low. How I Designed This The tricky part of this design is the friction fit on the stepper motor shaft. I learned how to use an octagonal profile to allow the shaft to fit without requiring exact tolerances. Even simple objects can teach you new things when you're just starting out.
